Climbing Clachnaben

Date: May 6, 2014

Everyone at Fasque & Glendye enjoyed watching the Clachnaben Hill Race which took place in April, sponsored by Deeside Brewery. It’s a 13.6km circular race, with a 690m climb. This year it was won by Robbie Simpson in a time of one hour and five minutes, with the winning lady runner, Rachel Armitage, coming in at one hour 22 minutes (both just outside the record times set in 2012). Anyone can take part; for more information about hill racing in Scotland, visit www.scottishhillracing.co.uk. For those who don’t feel the need to run up the hill, it’s also increasingly popular with recreational walkers. The walk takes about three hours, up and back, depending slightly on the weather conditions. Worth it for the view from the summit…
