Standing just to the west of Fettercairn, Balbegno Castle offers luxurious, friendly and authentically Scottish self-catering accommodation for up to 13 people. It is also a beautiful setting for larger gatherings or a wedding.
Balbegno Castle is a splendid L-shaped castle, originally dating from the 1560s with a Georgian wing attached. It sits in the centre of thousands of acres of undisturbed wilderness. For many years the castle was occupied as a grand farmhouse with a tenant. More recently, it was taken back in-hand by Fasque & Glendye Estates, at which point it was fully refurbished and began its new life as a really wonderful holiday home. It has six comfortable and stylish bedrooms, open log fires, quirky design elements, wireless broadband and satellite TV.
The focal point of the castle is the Great Hall, which has a vaulted ceiling depicting the coats of arms of 13 Scottish peers; originally there were 14 but one was removed after a fall-out with peer in question. The Great Hall can accommodate up to 55 people for a wedding or larger function, or around 24 with room to spare for dancing; other spaces for entertaining include the drawing room and dining room.
